The Sadness You Feel

This sadness you feel is one you can’t escape
You can hide behind a pill or a happy face
But before you know it the tides will change
And once again you can’t escape the pain

You think you’ve finally figured out your purpose
But no later do those old feelings resurface
And you try to choke them down again
But they greet you like an old trusted friend

Because one day you think you’ve got it figured out
That you’re life is going down a different route
But soon you realize you’ve only gotten so good at lying
That you’ve even managed to stop the crying

But the pain, you see, always comes back for more
It’s got an unchanging key to an unlocked door
And you welcome it in cause it feels like home
And it sucks you dry till you’re nothing but bone

And you wonder, why me? Why me?
This pain is blinding, can’t you see?
But you learn to accept it as part of who you are
And know that even if you’re happy that pain is never far.
